October 12, 2025 April 7, 2026

A photographic and archival survey of the New York City subway system's most architecturally significant stations, tracing 120 years of design from the ornate terra cotta and mosaic tilework of the original IRT stations to the dramatic public art commissions of the contemporary era. The exhibition draws on the Transit Authority's own extensive archives, rarely exhibited engineering drawings, and newly commissioned photographs by documentarians who gained access to areas of the system not normally open to the public. A final section previews current station renovation and expansion projects, raising questions about preservation, accessibility, and the future of the underground city.
